Driver Drowsiness Detection
Won the GE Innovation Award and an order for 5,000 glasses.
- Driver Drowsiness Detection System - Glasses that notice you nodding off
(Feb 2009 - Mar 2010, BITS Pilani)
Watched the driver's eyes and flagged drowsiness from how often they blinked.
The first version also read brain waves through an EEG cap. That was too complicated for a car, so we settled on a pair of glasses.
- Two parts: an adaptive fatigue monitor that learns each driver's behavior and flags when they are too drowsy to drive, and an alarm that plays specific sound frequencies to bring the driver back to alertness
- Published as internal research and presented to GE, where it won the GE Innovation Award (March 2010)
- Gold medal at APOGEE 2010, BITS Pilani
- Received an order for 5,000 glasses from a company based in Mexico
